PDP bombs ruling APC at convention

The outgoing Caretaker Committee Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarafi said that under the administration of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC, the country is witnessing the worst period in her history as poverty, joblessness, geometric raise in the prices of stable goods and unbridled killing of citizens is the order of the day.

He lamented the resurgent of insurgency in the northeast, saying that the terrorist group, which was almost defeated under the administration of PDP, had regrouped and are now unleashing terror on innocent citizens by consistent bombing of soft targets.

Makarafi who expressed this bitterness in Abuja while declaring open the People’s Democratic Party’s elective convention also added that the current administration embarked on all manner of campaign of calumny against the party with the view to acquiring power without considering the damage such mod sliding will cost the nation internationally.

He explained that opposition is not madness, saying that PDP had been responsible in criticizing the incumbent administration.

The caretaker committee chairman also underscore the need to involve youths in leadership at every level, saying that they are the leaders of tomorrow.

“The youths must be factored into whatever we are doing so that they will take over from us when we exit the stage. This noble objective can only be achieved by giving youths the opportunity to occupy leadership positions at all level of government for them to garner the required leadership experiences. We would also encourage them to go to school to build their capacity.”

He said that the doors of the party is open for all her founding members who left the party to return back to their home, while seizing the opportunity to specially welcome those who had returned to the party already.

Makaraki advised aggrieved party members to often explore internal mechanism to resolve disagreement before opting for litigation, saying that the party has excellent internal conflict resolution mechanism, arguing that there is really no need wasting limited resources hiring lawyers.

He said that the caretaker committee had laid a solid foundation for the incoming leadership to build on.

The outgoing chairman added that the caretaker committee was poised to conducting a free fair and transparent election that would be acceptable to all and sundry.

Makarafi thanked party members who had supported the caretaker committee with resources to reposition the party, saying that on assumption of office, he met a treasury of less than two million Naira.

Meanwhile, the former governor of Ogun state and PDP National Chairmanship aspirant  Mr. Gbenga Daniel and Aderemi Olusegun joined the league of those who withdrew from the chairmanship race.

Recall that the former PDP National Vice Chairman West, Mr. Olabode George and A former Lagos State governorship Candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje announced their withdrawal a day before.
