Ex-IGP Onovo
THERE was apprehension at Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State last Wednesday when some hoodlums over powered a police Sergeant on guard duty at the country home of former Inspector General of Police, Ogbonnaya Onovo and snatched his K2 assault rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition before escaping from the scene.
The hoodlums were said to have visited a herbalist in the area to prepare charms that would embolden and prevent bullets from penetrating through their skin when they snatched the gun with number 07018842 in a bid to test the efficacy of their charms.
Reliable sources said at the Police Headquarters, Enugu, where the matter was transferred to that “the policeman was at his duty post in the former IGP’s house, when the hoodlums approached him.”
It was further alleged that before the Sergeant knew what was happening, “the gang members made some incantations and touched him with their handkerchief, before he became unconscious of what was happening around him” momentarily.
According to the sources, “the police Sergeant could not explain what happened to both the gun and ammunition when he closed for duty, prompting the Police Mobile Force, PMF, Commander, 3 PMF Squadron, Enugu East Senatorial Zone, DSP Dafe Charles, to whom he was answerable to report the incident at the Nkanu West police station.”
