Jigawa State Magistrate Court sitting in Ringim Local Government, on Friday, sentenced 61 commercial sex workers to six months imprisonment.

Presiding Judge, Justice Sadisu Musa Jahun said they were arraigned before the Magistrate Court on two-count charges of prostitution and causing public unrest.

He said those convicted include 44 females and 17 males.

According to him “in the first offence, the court sentenced them to three months imprisonment or fine of N15,000, while in the second offence, they were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of N10,000.”

He explained that in total, the 44 convicted women were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of N25,000 each.

He said the 17 men arrested at the brothels were sentenced to a five-month jail term or fined N 25,000 each.
