Police confirm attack on truckload of cows in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the attack on a truck conveying cows by some hoodlums in the state, saying one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the incident. 

The Advocate reported on Sunday, the setting ablaze of a truck loaded with cows along Uga-Ezinifite Road in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

An eyewitness revealed in a video shared online that the truck was being driven by northerners before it was attacked by the gunmen who set it on fire.

The command's spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident occurred along the Ezinifite-Uga Expressway in Aguata Local Government.

According to the police, the incident happened at about 8 a.m on Sunday, May 8th, 2022.

Ikenga said one Mohammed Lawan who was conveying the cattle, was rescued by the police alongside other occupants, adding that the front of the truck was affected by the fire. 

Lawan was conveying the livestock to  Uga in the council area, Ikenga said.

“The command has rescued one Mohammed Lawan of Taraba State livestock within Ezinifite and Uga expressway. The rescue was following a distress call today, May 8th May 2022 at about 8 a.m. of suspected arson and cruelty to animals by gunmen”

Police operatives have been deployed to the area and normalcy has been restored in the troubled community, the police spokesman added.
