Burnt property in Nnewi, Anambra State
Dare-devil gunmen on Tuesday allegedly staged a comeback to Nnewi South Local Government Area headquarters in Ukpor, Anambra State, burning more buildings and offices.
The council secretariat was in March this year attacked by the hoodlums who apart from burning some part of the buildings also killed a security guard who was on night duty.
According to a source, the gunmen invaded the local government secretariat at about 2:00pm on Tuesday and set some of the remaining buildings in the premises ablaze.
They also reportedly gunned down an unconfirmed number of soldiers in the area who attempted to restrict them from enforcing the sit-at-home order.
The gunmen, from there, visited Ebenator community, also in Nnewi South Local Government Area, where they set an operational vehicle of the community’s vigilante on fire after disarming all the operatives.
Information has it that after allegedly killing five persons in Osumenyi (another community in the area) few weeks ago, the gunmen returned and kidnapped the traditional ruler of Akwaihedi community, H.R.M. Igwe Colonel Wisdom Onebunne.
They also reportedly burnt down the house of the vigilante leader in the community shortly after the monarch’s release.
The hoodlums further visited Ebenator community again, where they snatched the official vehicle of the traditional ruler, H.R.H. Igwe Edwin Chinaewubeze, from him.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached to confirm the attacks, as his mobile number couldn’t connect.(NEWSEXPRESS)
