There was panic in the early hours of Sunday in Ifelemenu, Ekpaomaka in Ikwo local government area, when a 23 year old man in the area, Julius Nwode Nwigboaka went berserk killing his father, Chief Nwode Nwigboaka and his sister whose name could not be immediately ascertained.

The incident that occurred 8am on Sunday threw the community into serious pandemonium as the residents  scampered for safety.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect inflicted serious machete cuts on six other residents of the area before he was gunned down by husband to one of the victims of his attack.

A source who gave his name simply as Ekoyo, said that trouble started Saturday night when Julius and his late father had serious family issues which prompted the father to leave the house that night to sleep in a friend's place.

The source said that before dawn Julius had already packed all his belongings in a bid to travel before the father arrived at about 7:30am.

“As the father approached the house, he asked the father to come to enable them resolve their differences that he wants to travel, immediately the father came close to where he was, he brought out a machete and butchered the deceased.

“The sister who was at home when the incident took place attempted to rescue the father and the young man also killed the sister with the cutlass.

"As if that was not enough, the brother also made attempt to stop him and he used the same cutlass to cut him though he survived the machete cut."

The source further revealed that the 23 year old young man may have taken hard drugs suspected to be Indian hemp before he carried out the dastardly act.

The source went further, “Some neighbours who saw what happened came to the scene. Julius attacked about six of them with the machete.

“But as he was leaving the area wielding the machete, a man called Peter whose wife was among those that received machete cuts went inside his house, brought his gun and shot him and he died instantly”, Ekoyo narrated.

The corpses of the victims have been deposited at  Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) while the injured are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital  in the state.
