Kidnapped Catholic priests rescued by police in Anambra

Two Catholic priests kidnapped on December 24, have been rescued by the police in Anambra State.

The Victims are Rev Fr. Peter Nwachukwu, Parish Priest, St Theresa’s Parish Umueze-Anam and Rev Fr. Cajetan Apeh Assistant priest in the parish.

In a statement issued in Awka the police said their rescue was sequel to joint operations with other Sister Agencies in the State on Thursday December 27 2018.

Police special teams comprising FSARS, PMF, Counter terrorism, Special Anti Cults units in conjunction with other Sister agencies and the Vigilante group reportedly mounted an intensive search and rescue operations for days.

Anamabra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed who signed the release said the search was facilitated by a Modern technology and aerial Surveillance.

He further disclosed that the kidnappers were forced to abandon their victims at about 6:45pm of 27/12/2018 due to difficult terrain.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Garba Baba Umar hereby reassures the people of their safety during the yuletide period and beyond.

The CP further warned all Criminal elements that Anambra is not a place to operate as they will surely meet their Waterloo and be dealt with decisively in accordance with the Law.
