Bomb blast hits commuter bus in Enugu

Residents of Enugu were thrown into fear Thursday night following a bomb blast that occurred in the capital city.

Although no life was lost, several passengers sustained various degrees of injury when the commuter Hiace bus was yshattered by the explosive. 

The bus which was on township services was heading to New Haven area of the Enugu capital city.

The blast which occured at the UBA bus stop very close to the popular Otigba junction, caused serious panic among the residents .

Eye witnesses said the deafening sound of the blast rocked the area just as the bus was lifted by the impact of the blast.
Driver of the bus was quoted as saying that he had earlier suspected one of the passengers, a northerner, and actually queried what was in a bag which he dropped in the boot of the bus.

The particular passenger was said to have kept mute as he jumped into the front seat of the vehicle and the driver on his part failed to probe further.

When newsmen arrived the scene at about 8:45 the bus was said to have been removed by a team of anti bomb squad from the Enugu State Police Command.

The northern passenger who is the prime suspect was also said to have been arrested by the police.
When our reporter visited the Parklane hospital where injured passengers were said to have been rushed to a nurse said they had to moved to Mother of Christ Hospital for want of space
