The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, voted at about 10:28am, Saturday, in the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Enugu, describing the process at his Polling Unit as smooth.

Ekweremadu, who voted along with his wife, Lady Nwanneka Ekweremadu, at Polling Unit 003, Amachalla, Mpu, Aninri Local Government Area, however, said there appeared to be a general low turnout of voters across the country.

“I can only speak for where I am right now. I have voted and I am happy with the process here. The voters are orderly and the security men are also responsible in their behaviour. The ad hoc staff are also very responsive and doing the job as expected.

“The card reader seems to be working today, at least for now, and I believe that even the atmosphere itself is also cordial. This is exactly what a voting environment should look like. I just hope and believe that the same thing is happening in every other place”, he said.

On the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate and incumbent Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Ekweremadu said the governor deserved nothing short of a landslide victory.

“Of course, he will win. First of all, Enugu is essentially a PDP state. Again, the governor has done extremely well and he is in touch with the people. He went round the state campaigning; I didn’t see other candidates campaigning. You can’t get votes when you don’t campaign so it is obvious he will win”, he stressed.
