The Bayelsa Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday thanked electorate in the state for voting massively for its candidates in Saturday’s polls.

Bayelsa did not hold Governorship election due to the tenure elongation case that extended the tenure of Ex-Governor Timipre Sylva and changing the handover date to Feb. 14, 2012.

The current administration would conclude its tenure on Feb. 14, 2020 and Governorship election will be held in November 2019.

Mr Doifie Buokoribo, Spokesman of APC in Bayelsa, said that results of the State Assembly elections indicated that the party has gained wider acceptability by clinching four seats out of the 21 seats so far declared.

Buokoribo noted that the three seats declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are within APC’s strongholds as the party was leading in the votes already tallied.

He said that the party would refrain from heating up the polity by protesting the development but as a law abiding party, would explore lawful means as spelt out by the electoral act

“The All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayelsa State Chapter, thanks the people of the state for voting overwhelmingly for our party, and defending the votes.

“What transpired in this election shows clearly that all along, the people had been robbed of the right to choose the leader they desire.

“The APC in Bayelsa State is thankful that despite the intimidation, lies and fake news employed by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the people stood with the APC.

“We would have rejected the results in several parts of the state where there were glaring cases of electoral fraud perpetrated by the PDP. But that would serve no useful purpose. It would only heat up the polity.

“However, our laws are clear on the steps to take in trying to redress poll injustices.

“We will, therefore, back our candidates who are directly affected by the PDP-sponsored malfeasances in the event of litigation at the electoral tribunal.

“In the out-going Bayelsa State House of Assembly, the APC had one seat. From the results declared so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), we now have four seats,” APC stated.

He claimed that the three seats declared inconclusive were won by the APC, adding that the party would continue to defend its victory with all the legitimate force at its disposal under existing laws.
