The presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday held secret talks with a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Abubakar, a former Vice President, met with the ex-president at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The former VP, according to sources, arrived about 1:00pm in company with some aides. Details of the secret meeting were not immediately available as at press time yesterday.

The meeting came in the wake of threat by Atiku to drag President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), to court over the outcome of the February 23 presidential election.

New Telegraph gathered that Atiku’s visit may not be unconnected with the results of the just concluded elections in the country and the tension and controversy generated by the exercise. It was learnt that the former VP had a private discussion with Obasanjo for one hour, after which he observed the Muslim prayers at the mosque.

Atiku was said to have also had lunch with his host, after which he departed the residence. When contacted last night, Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, confirmed Atiku’s visit to his principal.

Akinyemi, however, described the visit as private, adding that no one had knowledge about the discussion of the two leaders.
