Gunmen shoot Returning Officer in Benue

Gunmen have reportedly shot the Returning Officer in charge of Gboko Local government area of Benue State, Mrs. Comfort Tuluen, a professor with the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

Tuluen, it was gathered, was on her way to the INEC office in Makurdi to formally submit the result of the supplementary elections in some parts of Gboko LGA when the incident occurred.

Sources said the incident happened between Agasha and Abinci area which is about 15 kilometers to Makurdi, at about 8:30pm.

A  gang of four men driving in a Hilux, shot right at the Hilux vehicle that was conveying Tuluen wounding her at the back in the process.

Security personnel who were immediately mobilised to the area evacuated her to a hospital in Makurdi where she’s currently receiving treatment while the result was also delivered to the INEC office in Makurdi.

However, collation and presentation of election results at the INEC office scheduled to start 10pm commenced at about 11pm.
