A Permanent Secretary in Enugu state, Mr Augustine Udeh, who was abducted by unknown gunmen on Sunday has been rescued.

Udeh, who serves in the state Ministry of Land was kidnapped Sunday evening, between Isuawa and the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The state police command said Udeh's abductors bowed to the pressure mounted by its operatives who carried out a joint operation that forced his abductors to free him.

"He was allegedly abducted on 25/8/19 along Ituku Awgu axis of the Enugu Portharcourt expressway and following his abduction, security operatives had been on the trail until today 27/8/19," the state police spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu said in  a press release Tuesday.

He added that manhunt for the kidnappers was  still on  to ensure that those behind the criminal act were unmasked.

"The abductors hurriedly left him off the hook as securitymen were closing in on them and absconded to avoid being nabbed  at Ogbaku forest .  Full scale investigations have been intensified into the incident," he said.

Speaking on phone, Mr. Udeh who has reunited with his family, said he is hale and hearty and thanked God for his rescue.

He disclosed that no ransom was paid,  thanking  Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his swift interventions, especially the effective security measures his administration has put in place, which he said saw to his release.

Mr. Udeh equally appreciated the efforts of the security agencies and went further to thank the civil servants of the state for their prayers and support.
