THE Enugu Urban Butchers Association, Ogbete Main Market Branch, has finally laid to rest the leadership crisis that prevented it from  electing new leaders for over three years after the tenure of the former executive led by Osita Nnamani expired.

The association was engulfed with crisis following the expiration of tenure of the executive members who were acxused of refusing to vacate the office, a development that seriously inhibited it from electing a set of new leaders to run its affairs.

A legal tussle that ensued was however decided by an Enugu magistrate court, presided over by F.U. Eze, on August 19, 2019. The court  ordered the association  to conduct a fresh  election using the previous electoral committee headed by Mr. Chigbo Nnamani.

In compliance with the order of the court, the association conducted the election in Enugu on Tuesday wherre Chief Elijah Chibuikem Ede emerged as new chairman of the association with  Chief  Osita Ike elected as secretary.

Also elected are Nnaemeka Nwoye, Vice Chairman, Chukwuma Nwani, Assistant Secretary, Nwankwo Zinbo, Treasurer,  Sunday Zinbo, Publicity Secretary, Okechukwu Ani, Financial Secretary, Ogbuani Nweke, Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Okongwu, Director Social and Charles Ogbodo, Chief Provost.

Speaking with newsmen after the induction of the new executive, the Chairman, Ede pledged to reunite the group, noting that his election was a clarion call to serve the Butchers association in Enugu Urban.

He said that it was the potential his members saw in him that convinced them to elect him to reunite the association in truth and in faithfulness. He expressed appreciation for the role played by the judiciary which resolved the litigation that lasted for three years, saying that justice prevailed at last.

“I will rebuild that wall that was broken for three years and restore the glory with which the people knew the Ogbete Butchers Association. I believe that this election will reunite all the butchers in Ogbete market because when the righteous is on the throne, people will rejoice. This is the word of God and in everything I will do, I will consult God first,” Ede pledged.

Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Chigbo Nnamani said the election was a job well done and a welcomed development given the years of litigation over the matter.

“The impediment of this election was just the power tussle. The former executive members never wanted to vacate office. That is to show that human needs are insatiable. But now the best candidates have won. With this election, peace has finally returned in the association given that the election was conducted under peaceful atmosphere.

“All the democratic processes were complied with in the election. It was a fair level playing ground for every contestant. I pray for them to have focus and carry every member of the association along. They should not victimize anybody with their position,” Nnamani advised.
