28 suspected criminals arrested in Kogi

NO Fewer than 28 suspected criminals have been arrested at different locations in the last seven days across Kogi State.

The suspects were arrested by the Joint Task Force of State Vigilante Service and the Neigbourhood Watch.

Among those arrested were four  kidnappers who confessed to be terrorising the people of Dekina and Bassa local government areas.

Also, over 16 members of cult groups who confessed to be from Ankpa Local Government Area of the state were arrested in Olamaboro Local Government Area where they were carrying out initiation of new members.

The cult group also reportedly admitted to carrying out several armed robbery attacks on Ankpa-Okpo-Otukpa Road.

Also, an eight-man gang of miscreants who were reportedly causing trouble in Anyigba and Egume areas of Dekina Local Government Area of the state were apprehended when they led masqueraders into a mosque during prayers in order to trigger religious crisis.

While handing over the suspected criminals to the police at Okpo Division, the leaders of the Security Groups, Mr Usman Okoliko, the chairman of the vigilantes in Imane and Mr Iliyasu Abubakar, chairman of Neigbourhood Watch, said that the activities of the group had gone beyond cultism as they were engaged in armed robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Ishaq Shaibu, said the suspected criminals were bent on creating trouble in the local government area.

He said Governor Yahaya Bello was committed to eradicating all forms of criminals from the state.

“The governor has said that any parent who comes forward in defence of any criminal should be treated as one.”

He said that the arrested suspected  criminals will be charged to court soon.
