Nigeria has recorded 284 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 6,677.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known via its Twitter handle on Wednesday.
The NCDC also announced that no fewer than 200 patients have died of coronavirus-related complications in the country.
It said, “On the 20th of May 2020, 284 new confirmed cases and eight deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
“Till date, 6677 cases have been confirmed, 1840 cases have been discharged and 200 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The 284 new cases are reported from 13 states- Lagos(199), Rivers(26), Oyo(19), FCT(eight), Borno (eight), Plateau(seven), Jigawa (six), Kano (five), Abia(two), Ekiti(one), Delta(one), Kwara (one), Taraba (one).”
further breakdown of the data obtained from the NCDC’s website showed that of the 200 COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria, 40 were recorded in Lagos, Kano, 36; FCT, nine; Katsina, 13; Borno, 24; Bauchi five; Jigawa, three, Ogun, six; Kaduna, four; Oyo, four; Gombe, three; Sokoto, 13; Edo, six; Zamfara, five; Kwara, one; Rivers, four; Osun, four; Plateau, one; Kebbi, four; Yobe, one; Nasarawa, one; Delta, six; Niger, one; Ondo, one; Ekiti, two, and Akwa Ibom also recorded two deaths.
The data also showed that as of 11.50 pm on May 20, Nigeria has 4,637 active COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 97 patients recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours in the country.
The NCDC, however, apologised for committing an error in its announcement on Monday, May 18.
The centre tweeted, “On the 18th of May, eight new cases in Zamfara were erroneously announced. Therefore, as at the 20th of May 2020, Zamfara has recorded a total of 76 confirmed cases.
“We apologise to Zamfara State Government for this error and reiterate our commitment to accurate and transparent reporting of data.”
