Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Saturday evening, paid an unscheduled visit to Enugu-Ebonyi boundary to monitor compliance with the ban on inter-state transportation aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

The governor who met over 150 vehicles queued at the Enugu axis of the boundary, attempting to enter the state, painstakingly trekked a long distance interrogating the drivers, one by one, to ascertain their eligibility for entering the state.

Consequently, over 100 vehicles that were not on essential duties were identified and turned back to Ebonyi State where they were coming from.

While on the enforcement exercise, Gov. Ugwuanyi met with the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, who was on transit, and had a brief discussion with him.

Some concerned citizens have continued to blame some security agents at the state boundaries for allowing people traveling from different states into Enugu state.

Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province,  His Grace,  Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma condemned the poor security at the state boundaries which has encouraged the influx of people from northern states into the statesystem in the Southeast.

He told governors in the southeast to seek redeployment of northern security chiefs from the zone over the influx of Northerners and especially Almajiris to Southern Nigeria and largely to Southeast.

Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma questioned why should truck drivers hide dozens of Almajiris, jobless underage and unskilled youths inside trucks conveying live stocks, food stocks and other materials passing all the borders and check points in the northe before smuggling them into the southeast.
