Late Hon. Deacon John Abah
The Kogi House of Assembly has lost one of its members, Hon. Deacon John Abah.
He was a second term lawmaker representing the Ibaji Constituency.
Abah who was the Deputy Majority Leader of the assembly, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Kogi East Zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Omiattah, who confirmed the death in a statement, said “We regret to announce the demise of John Abah, the member representing the Ibaji Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly.
“I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the good people of Ibaji and the immediate family of the deceased.”
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, has described Abah’s death as shocking.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi, the Speaker expressed sadness over the death of the lawmaker.
He described Abah’s death at this time as a monumental loss to the 7th assembly “considering his robust contributions on the floor of the House.”
Also reacting to the death of the lawmaker, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yahaya Bello on Security for Ibaji Local Government Area, Williams Iko'Ojo, described it as "a departure of a rare gem, a monumental loss to Ibaji Local Government, Kogi state and the entire family of APC."
Iko'Ojo, who was the immediate past Chief Administrator of Ibaji LGA, expressed sadness over the demise of the state lawmaker in a statement he issued at Onyedega, the Headquarters of Ibaji LGA.
According to the SSA, the remains of Deacon John Abah would be deposited in the mortuary pending the conclusion of arrangement for the burial.
He enjoined the people of Ibaji and the entire APC members both in the State and Local Government to take solace in the Lord over the departure of Deacon John Abah, saying it's the will of God Almighty.
The security Chief in Ibaji local government area maintained that Abah's death "has created a vacuum too difficult to cope with and I pray God to give the immediate family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss."
In its condolence message to the bereaved family of Hon. Abah, the people of Ibaji and Kogi state, the Coterie of Ibaji Youths, COIY, an umbrella organization for Ibaji people, expressed sadness and deep grief over the demise of the lawmaker.
President of COIY, Mr. Nwuchola Jerry, in the condolence message said Hon. Deacon Abah was very committed to the progress of Ibaji LGA, stressing that his demise was a huge loss to his constituents.
"While urging the entire members of Hon. Abah's family, the Kogi State House of Assembly and the entire people of Ibaji LGA to bear the loss of this rare gem with fortitude, we in COIY will continue to pray that Almighty God grant the soul of Deacon Abah eternal rest," Nwuchola stated.
The Advocate reports that while sympathisers have besieged Abah's residence in Abuja to commiserate with the bereaved family, many sympathizers took to the social media to eulogise the fallen legislator, who was serving his second term in Kogi state House of Assembly before his demise Wednesday.
