NYESOM Wike, governor of Rivers State, Thursday, rushed to the rescue of the embattled Joi Nunieh, former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, in her house in Port Harcourt.

Reports said that Nunieh’s house was under siege of security operatives at the early hours of Thursday, July 16.

According to different media reports, Nunieh noticed the presence of the operatives while preparing to take the first flight to Abuja, where she was expected to testify before an ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating the alleged corruption in the NDDC.

The security operatives attempted to gain entry into the main building by banging on the gate repeatedly.

A source said that the policemen banged the gate repeatedly and later forced it open but could not enter inside the house where Nunieh took refuge.

Nunieh also confirmed that armed security operatives were in her premises located at 3, Owuru Creek view, off Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, on Thursday.

Prior to the incident today, Nunieh and Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs had engaged in war of words.

Akpabio, who is Nunieh’s boss, had accused her of insubordination while she told Arise TV in an interview, that she slapped the senator for alleged harassment.

However, Wike, who had earlier warned against any harm coming the way of Nunieh, moved in to monitor the development.

Sources from the Government House confirmed that the governor was at the residence but failed to disclose the actions he took when he arrived in the area.
