Thieves burgled offices in the Federal Secretariat in Calabar, Cross River State, where they carted away valuable items on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the masked thieves numbering 16 attacked the security guard on night duty and tied him up.

Some workes who arrived in the morning to find their offices burgled, said “the robbers used a long rope to tie the only security personnel on duty before operating.”

The workers who did not want their names mentioned decried the lack of security at the complex and wondered why more security guards could not be employed.

One of the workers said, “This is not the first time that thieves have invaded and looted this complex.

“We hear that when the thieves beat up the night guard, stripped him naked and tied him up before proceeding into offices to steal valuable properties.”

Controller of Works in the Federal Ministry of Works, Bassey Nsentip, said his counterpart in charge of Housing and Maintenance, called him to confirm the incident.
