All students kidnapped from their boarding school in Zamfara state have been released and have arrived on government premises, the governor of the state told AFP Tuesday.

“I am happy to announce that the girls are free,” Dr. Bello Matawalle told an AFP journalist.

“They have just arrived in the government house and are in good health.”

The girls were abducted overnight Friday.

Matawalle, who had earlier also confirmed the release of the schoolgirls via his official Twitter handle Tuesday morning.

The governor who earlier said Nigerians would be shocked at the identity of those who masterminded the kidnap said, “Alhamdulillah! It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe.”
