Shepherd Superintendent of the Household of God Church, Rev. Chris Okotie, has described the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) as a clannish religious enterprise.

Okotie was reacting to the election of a new national executive of the Christian body, led by its newly elected President, Bishop Wale Oke.

In a terse message to the PFN national secretariat in Lagos yesterday and circulated by his Media Adviser, Ladi Ayodeji, Rev. Okotie regretted that the PFN had departed from its core values and become a shadow of itself.

“PFN has become a clannish religious enterprise. It is akin to an amorphous political entity with a Christian silhouette.

“Leadership in the church of God is by divine appointment and not the whims and caprices of a disjointed assemblage of Episcopalian pacifists,” the statement said.

Okotie has, for years, been critical of the activities of successive presidents of the PFN for alleged compromise and unethical behaviors bordering on betrayal of the Christian cause, especially in their dealings with the political leadership of the country.

The preacher has always distanced himself from the activities of Christian body, citing credibility issues.

Also, President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Founder of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, on his election as PFN President.

In a statement Thursday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President Buhari also congratulated the outgoing PFN President, Dr. Felix Omobude, for successfully piloting the affairs of the organisation for the period he did.

“President Buhari sends warm felicitations to Founder of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, on his election as President of PFN, joining the entire Body of Christ to celebrate with the new leadership.”

“President Buhari congratulates the outgoing President of PFN, Dr. Omobude, for his stewardship, recognising the continuous intercessions in prayers for the nation, and willingness to offer wise counsels to leaders of the country at all levels, including Federal, state and local government.”

“The President also commends all participants at the meeting of National Advisory Council of PFN held at the Grace Cathedral, Enugu, for electing the renowned preacher, teacher and evangelist to lead the Christian body, affirming that his wealth of experience in spiritual issues, and passion for the country’s development will make a difference.

“President Buhari enjoins the new leadership of PFN, all Christian leaders and the Church to continue upholding the country in prayers for peace and prosperity.

“The President wishes Bishop Oke and his team God’s favour on the new responsibility,” the statement said.
