Ebonyi Communal Crisis: Effium Stakeholders sign undertaking to stop killings

Stakeholders of Effium Community in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State has signed an undertaken to be held responsible for any further killings or destruction of property in the lingering communal crisis between the community and the Ezza Effium people.

In a Statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor said that the stakeholders signed the undertaking after their meeting with the Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe at the Executive Council Chamber , Old Government, House, Abakaliki.

There has been killings and destruction of property between the people of Effium community and the Ezza Effium community following a communal crisis that erupted in the community early this year.

According to the statement: "From today, the 10th day of march, 2021 we the stakeholders of Effium community in Ohaukwu LGA are to be held responsible and liable for prosecution for any further killing of person(s) or destruction of property in the community comprising , Effium and Ezza clans”.

The release further stated that the Stakeholders also undertook to work and cooperate with security agencies deployed to the area to maintain peace to forestall further loss of lives and damage to property as well as collectively work to bring lasting peace to the community.

The stakeholders however signed the undertaking in the presence of the Deputy Governor, Dr Kelechi Igwe, Commissioner of Police, State Director of the State Security Service and representative of the the Nkwagu military cantonment, commander.

Others present during the signing of the undertaken includes, the Anglican Bishop of Abakaliki, Rt Rev Monday Nkwagu and the state Vice Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Scamb Nwokolo as well as Commissioner for Internal security, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha.
