No fewer than four policemen were reportedly killed by unknown gunmen who invaded Iwollo Ogbe police station in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police station was completely burnt down by the attackers who also carted away arms.

The victims were on duty at the station when the gunmen arrived in a Siena car and a bus and began to shoot indiscriminately, a source said.

A resident in the village said: “The men shot sporadically and we couldn’t even sleep, as the gunshot persists, we started seeing heavy smokes. The attackers were there for more than 45 minutes if not one hour.

“When we got to the station this morning, I could count up to four dead bodies on the floor and the entire station has been razed down. Their vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed."

When contacted, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu Command Public Relations Officer promised to get back to journalists when he gets the full details of the incident.

Iwollo Oghe police station was commissioned in 2016 and was built by the members of the community.
