The President-General of Ohanaeze NdigboWorldwide, Prof. George Obiozor yesterday said that restructuring will foster equity and justice, thereby satisfying the yearning of the Southeast.

Obiozor, who hosted British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter Thomas at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo National Secretariat, GRA, Enugu, enumerated the causes of agitations in the Southeast and the need for restructuring to reflect true federalism.

Obiozor, who noted that the Igbos are the most federating group of people in Nigeria, regretted that in the past two months, “the devil has visited the Southeast.

“The Southeast was the most exemplary in peace and security; the most organised with a vigorous grassroots economic activity until most recently.

“The Igbo are a unique set of people in terms of hard work, ingenuity, perseverance and inventiveness, so, whatever you deny the Igbo, they struggle and get it by themselves. Nigeria owes equity and justice to the Southeast”.

He regretted that these spate of violence were occurring when the call for Igbo presidency in 2023 had gained traction from probability to possibility.

While commending the various interventions of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) in Nigeria, Obiozor said the British government should not be discouraged by the current wave of violence in Nigeria.

He commend the British government for the cordial relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, adding that the United Kingdom is home to a lot of Nigerians.

Obiozor reminded the British diplomat that of all the countries in Europe, the British were the most involved in the affairs of Nigeria.

The deputy high commissioner said the essence of his visit was to find out from the Igbo leader why the Southeast had suddenly become violent.

The diplomat expressed concern that peace in Nigeria is of utmost importance to the United Kingdom and believed that the visit would go a long way to enlighten him on the facts on ground.
