But for the quick intervention by men of the Federal Road Safety Commission,  FRSC,  a worker in Kogi State civil service identified as Agada Okpanachi,  who attempted to take his own life by hanging on a tree would have given up the ghost.

Report said Okpanachi,  a staff of the state Ministry of Agriculture,  decided to terminate his life over what he described as severe hardship caused by non-payment of his salary for about two years.

Officials of FRSC at Idah while on routine patrol on Friday,  rescued the man while trying to commit suicide by hanging himself on a tree.

"While on routine patrol, a team of FRSC officials from Idah were informed by an okada rider that an unidentified man was attempting to take his life by hanging on a tree.

"The team, immediately rushed to the location inside a bush to rescue him. The patrol team found the man in an unconcious state and immediately rushed to bring him down from the tree and administered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on him and he regained consciousness," a source said.

According to him,  while the CPR process was going on,  the police were contacted and they met the FRSC team at the scene while administering the CPR.

He added that when the man was asked why he wanted to commit suicide, he said: "The hardship is too much for me and I can't cope than to hang myself. For the past two year I have not taken a kobo after wasted all my money for screening in lokoja."

Efforts to speak with Kogi state Police spokesman on the development on Friday proved abortive.
