Enugu state fire fighters battling to put out the inferno after severe damage had been done.

The inferno, which started in the early hours of Sunday did substantial damage to INEC Office, before men of Enugu state fire service arrived the scene.

The Fire Service Station in Ozalla, Nkanu West local government area was alerted of the incident on phone but before the operatives could get to Awgu both the building and vital documents including electoral materials were reportedly gutted by fire.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, observers said it might not be unconnected with the activities of members of pro-Biafran groups who had attacked several public building including Police station and INEC offices within the five South East states.

A video circulating on the social media since Saturday showed some armed hoodlums threatening that there would be no election in Biafraland in 2023 after they had dispersed a political gathering in a yet to be identified community and subjected members of a political party at the event to severe torture.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ndukwe could not be reached by press time but sources told The Advocate that  policemen in Awgu have mobilized to search for the hoodlums responsible for the Sunday attack.
