Justice Eddy Onyia. Enugu retired judge, is dead

The people of Amechi Awkunanaw community of Enugu South Local Government Area has announced the death of Hon justice Eddy Onyia (rtd).

A statement signed by the President General, Amechi Awkunanaw Community, Hon. John Egbo, Deputy Sheriff rtd, said that Justice Onyi died Sunday afternoon, September 19, 2021.

The statement reads: “On behalf of the good people of Amechi Awkunanaw community, I wish to formally announce to the general public that night has eclipsed day time in the community as our colossus, Hon. Justice Eddy Onyia passed on this afternoon.

“Towereing over his profession, peers in eloquence, glamour, traditionalists, forthrightness, the colossus known to many across the State as Hon. Justice Eddy Onyia, retired (Chinawaeze) passed on this bright Sunday afternoon just like a candle in the wind.

"Enugu State, Awkunanaw and Amechi Community in particular has been thrown into mourning as a man of principle has left us abruptly when his wise counsel and experience are needed most. A man of the people, the man of all season may be gone but his legacy will leave on! May His Gentle Soul Rest in Perfect Peace, AMEN. “

"Visitation to his family will be at his Enugu city residence."
