No fewer than four persons were shot dead while several others sustained gunshot wounds when some gunmen attacked soldiers deployed to a bank near the palace of Eze Arochukwu in Abia state on Thursday.

It was gathered that some young men believed to be members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, armed with Biafra flags and firearms had marched through major roads in Arochukwu Kingdom Thursday morning chanting songs in solidarity with the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, whose trial resumed at an Abuja High court on Thursday.

Soon after the solidarity march, some armed men confronted the soldiers near the First Bank and the monarch's palace resulting to exchange of gunfire.

"After the shooting, I saw four corpses of the gunmen while some fled with gunsNot wounds but I cannot say how many lives were actually lost as it was not safe to go around the community immediately," said a resident on phone.
