The members of Amechi Development Union (ADU) in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, have called on the immediate past Town Union President and former commissioner in the state, Hon. John Egbo to render a "fastidious account" of his stewardship and handover officially to the newly elected Executive of the union led by Chief Paul Agbo.

ADU is an administrative organ of Amechi Awkunanaw formed for the purpose of promoting the general welfare and interests of the community.

The request was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary General of the Union, Mr. Emma Ike Orji.

According to a press release issued in Enugu on Saturday by Media Officer of ADU, Sammie Echi Agbo, the former President General (Hon. John Egbo) alongside other members of his executive was formally inaugurated on the 31st of March, 2018, following an electoral process that could be described as most transparent, fair and credible.

He said that in his official address to the people of Amechi Awkunanaw on the same day of his inauguration, Hon. Egbo vowed to reverse the negative status quo of incessant land and other disputes, youths restiveness and restlessness, retarded development, among other reassuring promises.

"Our mission is to reverse the negative attributes, trends and inject a peaceful atmosphere that will unite our community to recover our properties, improve our relevance in the scheme of things in the state and create a through state," Egbo was quoted as saying.

The media officer said "premised on the above reassuring promises of his, the community deemed it fit to repose her confidence on a man driven by selfless communal service and guided by the principle of accountability", adding that "the community's massive and overwhelming support was unquestionable based on their earnest anticipation from Hon. Egbo."

Continuing, Sammie Agbo stressed that accountability of services and actions were the Hallmarks of any true leader "and it becomes more expedient for a leader to be more accountable when he enjoys the support of the people based on his positivist past records.

"To derogate from such public trust and confidence is not usually an ideal path to toe as it in most cases reduces the support, warmth and admiration the public office holder enjoys from the people."

He further said that "Hon. Egbo was therefore a man the people of the entire Amechi Awkunanaw Community hold in high esteem as a messiah, who would take them from Egypt into the land flowing with abundant improvement of infrastructural and human resources, based on his previously led accountable lifestyle and transparency.

"It is based on this trust that he is beckoned upon by the General executive members of Amechi Development Union to appear before the body on Tuesday, the 26th day of October 2021, 11am prompt at the Amechi Civic Center to officially handover his tenure and to render account on the following during his stewardship:

"the revenue generated during his tenure, from the month of December 2017 to December, 2020; account generated for Amechi under his leadership of the Town Union between January 2020 and November 2020; account for the sum of 5 million naira donated to Amechi Awknanaw Community by the Enugu State Government in 2018; all monies realized during the Ofala festival of December, 2019 and all documents relating to transactions done or entered into during his tenure as the  Town Union President."

The Acting President General, Amechi Awkunanaw Development Union, Mr. Chukwudi Nwankwo, had lamented that the delay by the John Egbo led administration in handing over the affairs of the Union to the present executive had really affected the intended pace of development in the community.

Mr. Nwankwo urged the past town Union leadership to do the needful as it was becoming embarrassing that they had not handed over and rendered account of their stewardship nearly one year after they left office.

When contacted to react to the letter of summon extended to him by ADU to render account and properly hand over the leadership to his successor, Hon. Egbo said that he never received any request from anybody, pointing out that those making such a demand were committing sub judice as the matter of who is the President General of ADU is still pending in court.

"Anybody doing or saying anything about this matter should know that it is sub judice and I remain the President General of ADU," Hon. Egbo said.
