Ahaneku
The Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, has said that the institution would soon commence production of vehicle spare parts.
He disclosed that the university had rolled out brake pads which were being patented.
Ahaneku made the disclosure while displaying the products at St. Joseph The Worker Chaplaincy of the university, during a thanksgiving mass to mark his four years in office.
He said the university embarked on such ventures to live up to its motor of ‘Discipline, Self-reliance and Excellence’.
The vice chancellor explained that the university’s efforts got a further boost following discussions with three African American experts in automotive engineering during his recent cross Atlantic trip.
He said that the experts agreed to collaborate with the institution in motor parts production, hinting that the university would not go into full production, but would be willing to sell its patent to prospective manufacturers.
“One of my achievements on coming into office is that of re-inventing core values of academic environment and through interaction introduced new ideas and culture. From the beginning of my administration, I told my colleagues that we must believe in our ability and what we can showcase as individuals. So, I want all of us to get back to the level of regaining our confidence. We should really be very proud of our origin, our natural endowment and our natural traits,” he stated.
While revealing the introduction of 25 new projects by the university, some of which had already commenced, Ahaneku expressed satisfaction that his administration was gradually internalising new things with the cooperation of the university workers.
