Breaking: Ekweremadu withdraws from Enugu PDP guber primary election

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has announced his decision to back out of the governorship primary election of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, holding in Enugu today. 

Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial district, made this known through a press statement issued by the Director-General of Ikeoha Campaign Organisation, Hon. Charles Ogboo Asogwa Wednesday morning. 

The statement reads:

"We wish to inform our supporters and Nigerians that the former Deputy President of the Senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

"Meanwhile, we continue to trust God as we appreciate our teeming supporters and the good people of Enugu State for the enormous goodwill they have ceaselessly invested in the actualisation of the “Pathway to a New Enugu State”.

"We urge them to remain peaceful and be assured that we will keep them abreast of our decision on the way forward."

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Mbah, Chairrman of Pinnacles Oil has been favoured to emerge from today's primary as the PDP governorship flagbearer for Enugu State.

Few hours to the primary election, some of the contestants including Evarest Nnaji, Ken Onoh announced their stepping down and support for Dr Mbah, who the former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo named as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi's successor at a press conference on in Enugu on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, the accreditation of delegates for the primary election commenced in the early hours of today while necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the primary election at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium has been concluded.
